This weeks #ThistleThursdays theme is Great Halls 🏰
Our 'Great Hall' is known as the Armoury Hall because of the impressive 1300 strong display of weaponry and armour on show - designed by the 11th Duke in 1953, last used in warfare at the battle of Culloden.

Our ‘feature Friday’ this week is our secret staircase that goes from the very top of the castle to the basement fosse 🏰
Previously, it would have been used by household staff, and during 2020 it is open to the public on our castle tour!

The eerie atmosphere centres on the elaborately carved bed, on which, legend suggests, a young Irish harpist was murdered by the Duke of Montrose’s men in 1644. Legend has it that when the bed was moved to the present castle, his spirit came too!
