I wrote a long-form analysis for Spectre Journal on how multipolarity today expresses an imperialist system marked by the growing power of institutional investors and mid-sized states, and uneven development of authoritarianisms—and how movements can fight back.

Seeing things today as inter-imperialist rivalry or unipolar hegemony is not enough—I explore what I call “the multiple geographies of inter-imperial relations, with different cycles and layers of collaboration and competition, between different sectors of the ruling class.”

The essay tries to consider how recent academic engagements around ‘state capitalisms’ today (h/t Ilias Alami Imogen Liu Adam Dixon et al) and role of asset management firms in structuring global capital accumulation can better inform socialist organizing—more to be explored!

Why do I put “anti-imperialists” in quotes? Because if these people were consistent, they would critique & oppose *all* imperialisms and stand in solidarity with the victims all imperial powers. But they decidedly do NOT. They have a US-centric focus on a single imperial power.
