In honor of International Women's Day, I brought a group of women poets to visit a Fall 2023 exhibit that celebrates Dr. Claudine Gay: to pay homage to her as a rigorous intellectual; steadfast advocate for social justice; compassionate leader; and veracious and noble President.

This is what women do for women: we stand WITH, we stand AMONG, we stand BESIDE them.... So glad I spent International Women's Day in the company of the great poet and translator Erin Moure, who jubilantly joined me in honoring Dr. Claudine Gay. #IWD2024 #Harvard

A "quadrivium" was once the 4-year period in which learning took place: from apprenticeship to what was then called "mastery." On this the 4th anniversary of the pandemic, I wonder: What have we learned in the past 4 years? And how will we carry that knowledge forward....?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I reunited with my beloved choir (Grace Church Choral Society) in Central Park, where we sang together, poignantly, tenderly, in honor of the lives that had been lost.... instagram.com/reel/C4YP3PQAA…

"A gardening tool...." Can nothing and no one grow? When will this brutality end, if all the wounds in a row make no opening, make no progress, make no dent in this military-industrial mindset....? theguardian.com/us-news/2024/m…

I once asked Fanny Howe where she was when she learned Malcolm X had been killed, she said: "I was on a bus going to see Jonathan Kozol & someone got on and announced it." Here's an excellent article about Kozol's decades of work toward social justice: shorturl.at/jqDHQ

I've worked 9:00-5:00 for more than 25 precious years of my life. It's a Friday night & I'll likely work till 8pm. Bernie, in this & all things, you've led the way. I wanted you for my President, but if you can't be that: maybe you could just be my boss? shorturl.at/eikJR

It's been hard to find anything as ensouled & embodied as ALL OF US STRANGERS. I was struck, while searching for a new series, by several that seem to want to speak to this moment. Here's a scene from "Manhunt" that has made no effort at hiding its echoes & (anti-Maga) ethos.

A love letter to Lamont (a library at Harvard Library that the author says is "a sanctuary, a haven & second home," as well as a "loyal companion & friend"). As HL begins to reimagine Lamont, I hope these moving, impromptu testimonials are contributory.... shorturl.at/fhAMV

Strange that both Helen Vendler & Marjorie Perloff have left us: the mighty women who shone such a light. I met Helen in Oxford (as a stranger at a cafe) when I was facing huge hurdles as a woman scholar & she validated my mind against the gaslighting. She all but saved me....

"[T]he contrast between a president and party that finally dealt with uncomfortable truths & a president and party that have never stopped spinning unconscionable lies." --Frank Bruni, NYT The only word I'd quibble with is "finally," but for now, I'm streaming unexpurgated Hope.

I was exactly 3 years old in August 1974, was just learning to walk/sing/speak, when Philippe Petit took those first steps--not onto the lunar surface but out into the very element of our earthly existence, if we accept as one philosopher has put it, that "EVERYTHING IS SKY."
