Look at that beautiful Cordyceps fungus 😍🤩! All those pimple-like bumps are spore-bearing structures called perithecia that collectively contain hundreds of thousands to millions of ascospores.

New first time fungus for me: Climacocystis borealis 🤩😍! Spotted these at the base of a dead hemlock tree at Cathedral State Park in Aurora, West Virginia. This saprotrophic bracket fungus typically fruits on conifer trunks near the base or on roots.

If finding chicken of the woods was a crime, I’d be serving a life sentence.
