My goodness this flashed up on my timeline. I remain very grateful for the voters of Ross, Skye and Lochaber electing me to Westminster in 2015 and for re-electing me in 2017 and 2019.

I am delighted for John Swinney that he has been elected The SNP leader and First Minister elect. I know John has was it takes to lead our party and our country. We will now listen and engage with the electorate and the SNP will show it is on the side of those in Scotland.

Satire and cartoons are part of our political life and of course this can be edgy. However this crosses a line, it is offensive and does nothing to foster respectful debate. I am surprised by The Times and The Sunday Times who should both withdraw and apologise for this.

I despair at how some are approaching this leadership contest. We’ve seen far too much elevating of the personal over the political, and in doing so we all end up being dragged down. Have we learned nothing from last year - a contest at John Curtice said cost us up to 5%.
