Waste collection services generally, and the new duty to collect food waste in particular, are not even mentioned in the #localgov provisional settlement. Bizarre. gov.uk/government/con… District Councils' Network Local Government Association (LGA)

Erm, Home Office. 1) number...is (agreement of noun and verb in correct English 🤦‍♂️) 2) shameful to whom? Not to the people of Britain. Isn't Home Office responsible for border security? 🤔

Everyone expects private companies to make profit. What is unjustifiable is gap in prices between areas a relatively short distance apart - much higher in Kidderminster than in Birmingham suburbs. "Fuels" suspicion of cartel behaviour in some areas. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Sounds like a prescription for centralism....if the answer is Westminster/Whitehall, then we've learned nothing from the last 50+ years. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

At last. Only 5 years and 1 month since close of the consultation for Department for Transport to confirm it will go ahead...but it depends on primary legislation (no timetable given) and secondary legislation ("in due course"). Which means nothing changes yet. 🙄gov.uk/government/con…

Whitehall's stock answer: centralism. Where is the commitment to devolution if elected mayors are meant to take over functions of police and crime commissioners but the Home Secretary can interfere in staff appointments? If @UKHomeOffice wants a national police force, create it.

Elections postponed by one year (subject to outcome of the court case). But reality as *everyone* knows is that elections for these councils in 2027 will be cancelled if reorganisation goes ahead: elections in May 2027 will be for new unitary councils. legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2026/96/c…

"head overseas" to avoid the visitor tax.🙄 Opponents of this long overdue tax & fiscal devolution haven't been overseas anywhere in the last 20+ years, where they will find such taxes are (1) absolutely normal (2) have not stopped people going on holiday. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
