Lot of discussion about Erasmus scheme today. Worth looking at the published statistics - particularly take up by UK students - before commenting. Students need an opportunity to see the world and be supported. Erasmus is great but exchange should be more international.

Prelim UCAS data starting to look interesting and unsurprisingly greatly affected by COVID. Courses that required travel (languages etc) are down and medicine applications up through roof. Clearer pic will emerge after `equal consideration' deadline of 15/1/2021.

Number of US deaths (military + civilian) in WWII was 418,000. Number of US COVID deaths is currently 380,000. Kinda puts the number of deaths in perspective.

Return of USA to Paris climate accord is probably one of the most consequential decisions that Biden could make. Its consequential because the accord is there to try and protect the living Earth and humanity (through the environment, but you get the point).

Interesting discussion in Guardian about degree grades. HESA data freely available to analyse. Some universities /departments now giving 81% of cohorts first class degrees ! Employers by-passing this by asking for student ranking in class and interviewing - a better alternative.
