The implications for music are concerning in this, I feel. What with all the work that has been done over the years, eg with the #modelmusiccurriculum (whatever you think of it), Ofsted ought to report if academies aren't teaching music at all?

This is a really helpful contribution to the ongoing #modelmusiccurriculum discussion - many thanks to Robert Bunting via John finney. jfin107.wordpress.com/2021/05/13/mak…

Dismal reading about the number of schools moving to or retaining carousel rotations for arts subjects. If your school is doing this it’s not ok. If your school has a thriving arts culture then you know why it’s a game changer. If it hasn’t, it needs more investment NOT LESS

Great article from Jonathan Savage in new BERA journal. Good for me as a Scot to get some further knowledge and insight about developments in #MusicEd in England!

Musical Futures – the Marmite of Music Education? | Anna Gower. Thanks Anna. Been on a similar journey. Please share more of your thinking. MF had a huge impact on my teaching. It made me think “what do pupils want?” not just “what do pupils need?” annagower.com/2021/06/21/mus…

Inspired by CSPACE Research conference but blown away by our wonderful @R0b5m1th asking ‘what do we talk about when talk about education?’ in his inaugural professorial lecture. It’s time to celebrate ‘richness’ in diversity, potential and opportunity. Thanks Rob.

Nearly time for the Dyson epic Quo Vadis: 3choirs.org/events/quo-vad… Some sublime singing from the wonderful soloists this morning during rehearsal, supported by the brilliant Philharmonia Orchestra

Some great comments about the Three Choirs Festival Chorus singing the opening concert on Saturday 23rd July 2022. The male soloists also received worthy mentions: seenandheard-international.com/2022/07/dvorak…

Amazing rehearsal of Richard Blackford’s Pietà this morning 3choirs.org/events/piet%C3… The soloists: Jess Dandy (contralto), Roderick Williams (baritone) and Amy Dickson (soprano saxophone) were sublime. Not to be missed.

My book arrived. Anonymous reviewers said it “offers something new to the music education canon. It has potential for significant impact to the discourse of the field” "It serves as a corrective or an additive to the current themes being explored in the field”. Gosh.

A privilege to be part of Birmingham City University graduations this week. Proud to see such a diverse range of students walk across the stage in the company of wonderful colleagues.

Finally able to graduate in person in the amazing Symphony Hall thanks to Birmingham City University. The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass were brilliant, as they have been all week. I got ‘the prize’ for the longest thesis title. Available at open-access.bcu.ac.uk/13302/

Good to see support for music and musicians in economy2030.resolutionfoundation.org/reports/ending… “The UK is a broad-based services superpower, the second largest services exporter in the world with successful musicians and architects as well as bankers” (p. 118).
