On This Date - Sept. 4, 1972 - Indiana Hoosiers Mark Spitz became the first to win seven golds in one Olympiad when he swam the anchor on the gold medal winning 400 medley relay in Munich. Spitz won gold in four individual events and three relays, setting world records in each event.
