I’m back in 🇳🇱 to speak at the PES 🌹🇪🇺 Congress in Amsterdam & meet Dick Schoof Dick Schoof. In the Hague, I will give a briefing on Belarus to 🇪🇺 Ambassadors, organized by 🇩🇰 Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2025. I’m also looking forward to giving the October Lecture at the Rode Hoed for RAAM – op Rusland, Oekraïne en Belarus.

For her 65th birthday, Natallia Malets remains behind bars — sentenced to 3 years for donating to political prisoners. When letters are blocked, even a €3 payment slip with your name on it becomes a message of solidarity. But the regime called it “promoting extremism.”

Three years ago, Mikalai Autukhovich was sentenced to 25 years in prison, the harshest verdict ever given to a political prisoner in Belarus. Eleven others received up to 20 years. They were locked in cages during the trial like animals. We will not rest until they are free.

Today, I joined Yulia Navalnaya on the #PESCongress2025 panel “Voices of Resistance”, hosted by Raphael Glucksmann. Dictators think democracies are weak. But when free nations stand with those who resist oppression, they send a clear message: dictators will fall — and justice will win.

Dictators act with impunity—and it only emboldens them. We already see how Russia is testing Europe’s borders. Without a strong response, they will only grow bolder. But democracies DO have the power to stop this. Believe in yourselves—because we believe in you. #PESCongress25

For 30 years, the dictator has destroyed our country. Now we must rebuild it from the ground up. It won’t be easy, but I know Europe will stand with us. First, all political prisoners must be freed. The law must be restored, and free, fair elections must follow. #PESCongress25

Lukashenka’s regime marks political prisoners in Belarus with yellow tags – an easy and inhuman way to single out those given “special treatment” behind bars. For what? For daring to dream of a free and democratic country.

On Sunday, October 18, 2020, tens of thousands joined the peaceful March of Partisans to demand freedom for Belarus. The regime answered with mass arrests. Because of the repression & brutality, you no longer see street protests, but Belarusians never stopped demanding freedom.
