AerE’s brand new autoclave has arrived in Howe. It will be used primarily for Composites Lab work and will help students create 3D aircraft components with carbon fiber material donated by Boeing. It will also be available for other uses when put into use spring semester.

Congratulations to our Wenjie Xia who has been selected as an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Rising Star as part of their initial cohort. He will present research at the upcoming ASME IMECE international mechanical engineering conference in Portland, Oregon.

Alumna Mackenzie Kilcoin will present our next Make To Innovate UNICOM Talk. She’ll discuss her journey from the M:2:I student program to her profession as a propulsion systems engineer with Rubicon Space Systems. 5 p.m., Alliant-Lee Liu Auditorium, Howe Hall. Open to all at ISU.

The Lighter Than Air Fly-Off is one week away! The Howe Hall atrium and undergrad lab have been humming with activity as the freshman student teams in AER E 1600 work to make qualifying flights with their remote controlled craft designed and constructed with supplied materials!

Furry friends land in AerE! Therapy dogs Lena and Sydni from the Iowa State University Police Department paid a visit to Howe and quickly made a squadron of new friends! Thank you Chris Easter of our AIAA student chapter and to Lena and Sydni's hooman Kinsey Phillips. This mission was a success!

"Blasting off again" in the Pokemon-themed Lighter Than Air Fly-Off! A total of 45 freshman teams flew their lighter than air remote controlled craft, with the aid of helium-filled balloons, through the Howe atrium obstacle course. See a separate post for the winning team!

Team Grubbin won the Lighter Than Air fall semester Fly-Off competition in the Howe atrium. A total of 45 freshman teams competed with Pokemon-themed craft. Congrats to Aeris Bonefas, Felicity Brokaw, Jason Detlefsen, Jordyn Doughty, Sama Jabbbar, Kayla Oftedahl (not pictured).
