💧Fluid creep accounts for more fluid than resuscitation in ICU. But nobody prescribes it — and most don’t even notice it. The truth? 🧨 Most ICU patients don’t need routine maintenance fluids. Here’s what’s really going on 👇🧵

Fluid accumulation syndrome, a term coined by these authors, definitely sounds nicer than "drowning your patients." Either way, stop drowning your patients. 🎩 tip to the authors, including Manu Malbrain eddyjoemd.com/foamed

Watching the platelet count drop in our patients is unnerving. Sure, there are some cases where we can explain it, but we oftentimes need to pull the trigger and check for HIT. Here's a great review on caring for these patients. 🎩tip to the authors. eddyjoemd.com/foamed

ICU Practice: A successful spontaneous breathing trial is just one factor identifying extubation readiness; other factors are the ability to cough/clear secretions and the ability to protect the airway We should not conflate "weanability" with "extubatability" #foamed #foamcc

The things I am most contacted about is workload and the normalisation of poor care by employers. The shocking hit film about overworked #nurses that’s causing alarm across Europe theguardian.com/film/2025/jul/…

Like Roy Lilley 💙 I've been doing the math too. Huge redundancy bills, no strategic workforce plan, no "ready to rehire" scheme, no workforce impact assessments (on remaining workforce), no equality assessments (mostly women losing jobs) from orgs we have looked at.
