Burnley’s new Spanish Civil War memorial to east Lancashire volunteers in the International Brigade was dedicated yesterday with Mayor of Burnley Council Shah Hussain. Chris Keene of Burnley Trades Council, Trades Union Congress TUC North West and IBMT have played key roles. More follows

1/3. A very busy month with our activity. In Salford, we spoke at the Patriots & Partisans talk on anti-fascism from 1920s-40s inc the Spanish Civil War. We also left wreaths where a new Salford IBMT memorial is planned near WCML Talk inc ANPI London James Connolly League

Post 2/3. Another event this month was the unveiling of the Burnley Spanish Civil War memorial. The mayor performed the ceremony with Chris Keene of North East Lancashire TUC. Honours volunteers from across east Lancs inc Rossendale, Pendle & Hyndburn. IBMT Burnley Council

Post 3/3. Manchester church venue, we had a Songs of Protest & Struggle concert in Chorlton Arts Festival. Manchester Rad Trad network’s Alan Percy & Alistair Dodds, the MadDonnas & Michael Burns. Poems& readings inc La Pasionaria speech. For Salford IBMT memorial campaign

OTD in 1946 Italians voted in the Institutional Referendum. Universal suffrage was allowed for the first time, in the first free election in 25yrs. Given the choice between republic and monarchy, voters opted for the former. The Constitutional Assembly was elected too.
