Insiders today: how do politicians and journalists who parrot their words get away with saying Aus has reduced emissions more than other countries? Btwn 2005 and 2018 Aus energy emissions increased by 6%. Most high income countries decreased eg UK by 33 % #insiders Frank Jotzo

The Guardians write up of my new paper, available in full on TAI website. Australia ‘lagging at the back of the pack’ of OECD countries on climate action, analysis finds theguardian.com/environment/20…

Interesting the PM proudly claims his policy will not include/need mandates. Mandates - laws to prevent land clearing - are precisely how the 20 per cent emissions reduction (since 2005) - was achieved.

AEMO data on av. NEM wholesale prices in Q1 2022 shows more coal = higher prices, more renewables = lower prices. Qld $150/MWh, SA $71/MWh. Renewable shares of generation: Qld 15%, SA 76%. Coal shares Qld 70%, SA 0.

Heavy dependence on coal generation has made wholesale electricity prices much higher in Qld & NSW than other states. See my new piece in The Conversation. theconversation.com/labor-says-pow… via The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand

Contrary to gas industry claims on ABC 7.30 last night, weekly domestic gas consumption since last April almost identical with same period in 2021, as shown by official AER data. No increase! abc730 Frank Jotzo Giles Parkinson Richie Merzian

APPEA spokeswoman said on ABC7 Eyewitness News.30 ‘gas demand in May this year increased 55% versus May last year.’ Really? The official facts show it was almost the same. See my graph below ⁦David Speers⁩, ⁦Frank Jotzo⁩ ⁦Richie Merzian

A message from Hugh’s family: We’re heartbroken to say that after months of illness Hugh died peacefully on the morning of the 29th of June. Widely admired by friends and colleagues, he was a beloved husband to Marilyn Marilyn Chalkley and adored father to Owen and Harry Harry Saddler.
