It's been more than four weeks since our entire newsroom was laid off by Buzzfeed.

We are still fighting for fair severance. Today we are calling on Buzzfeed to honour the contributions of our contract workers and long-service employees. (THREAD)

In recent weeks we have shared these concerns internally with Jonah Peretti and BuzzFeed to no response.

We are calling on them to give these workers fair and equitable severance.

So proud to be part of a union that supports contract workers in their fight for equal treatment, dignity and respect. As Alphabet Workers Union (AWU-CWA) and HuffPost Canada Union have shown, companies like Google and BuzzFeed should still be held accountable when they contract out work.

“HuffPost contractors deserve the same status & benefits as perm. employees. They’ve made invaluable contributions to the brand & must be awarded the same securities as everyone. Not to do so is cruel & arbitrary. It’s time to take a stand against these unfair labour practices.”

Solidarity with our Canadian colleagues, whose newsroom was entirely gutted in our recent round of layoffs. All of its employees deserve fair severance.
