Late last night I signed Ohio’s Two Year State Operating Budget at the Ceremonial Office in the Statehouse after session.

Our hearts are heavy this Sunday morning as our family joins all Ohioans to mourn the loss of innocent lives from the senseless tragedy in Dayton. The innocent victims & their families are in our prayers. We commend first responders whose bravery & faithful courage saved lives.

I was saddened today by the passing of Jon Peterson. Jon served as Asst Maj Whip from 2001-04 in my first stint as Speaker. As a lawmaker, county official and pastor Jon showed compassion for those overlooked by society & gave a voice to those who were not being heard.

The density of poverty is what causes non -performance. If you took every kid below 250% poverty out of Crooksville District and sent them to New Albany, and replaced them w New Albany kids - New Albany would be on the list and Crooksville would be an A.

The State Grade Card games high concentrated poverty districts to fail and be voucher eligible. Performance Based vouchers only exasperate the problem as local funds are then pulled from those districts to pay for vouchers providing less and less $$, a self fulfilling prophecy.

The Mahoning Valley and the State of Ohio lost one of their biggest fans and advocates yesterday. RIP Don 🙏🏻

There is no excuse that night after night the Ohio Statehouse gets beaten, spray painted & abuses. The Statehouse isn’t only Ohio’s seat of government but it is POST #1 OF THE HIGHWAY PATROL. Governor, protect the taxpayers property NOW, OSHP have some respect for yourself !!!
