Continuing our discovery of the hidden parts of the castle. This is the Sally Port known as the castle’s backdoor. In 1689, Viscount Dundee had a secret meeting here with the Duke of Gordon, governor of the castle, to discuss plans to overthrow the Government.

Another of our ancient castles is for sale - Castle of Park. Sir William Gordon of Park fought alongside Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden. The castle was sacked by the Duke of Cumberland's forces, but Sir William evaded capture and escaped to France! countryliving.com/uk/homes-inter…

Congratulations to Adam Gordon from Derbyshire on being made an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours this morning! Adam played a major role in keeping the UK's mobile networks running as demand surged dramatically during the coronavirus pandemic. Well done Adam!

Congratulations also to James Gordon, from Aberdeenshire on being awarded an MBE! He worked for decades supporting his local community of Alford. When cuts ripped the railway out of the town, he got supporters together and they simply created their own one!

We are sad to hear of the passing of John Gordon of Abergeldie. When severe flooding almost toppled Abergeldie Castle into the River Dee, he stepped up, refusing to let it be the end - and kept the old tower standing as it had for centuries. eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/…
