I brought before them the fact that the State Government led by Senator Hope Uzodimma is committed to addressing social issues such as substance abuse and mental health challenges, while encouraging them to put in their best to support the government work.

I let them know that the partnership will go a long way to supporting the work that the government is already doing at the centre. It will also complement the rehabilitation services, healthcare, and social welfare, especially to the vulnerable in the centre and society at large

Yesterday, I played host to the founder of the Missionary Companions of St. Dunstan, Rev. Fr. John Chukwuma Okafor and his team as we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the effective and efficient management of the Rehabilitation Centre, Umuneke, Ngor Okpala LGA.

This conviction in suit No How/32C/2022 of Pastor Desmond Eke of Deliverance Ministry of The Good Shepherd serves as a warning to potential offenders that the VAPP law is operational. The state government, under Senator Hope Uzodimma, will ensure the implementation of the law.

This will curtail the prevalence of domestic, physical and gender violence in in the state. I assure women, men, the vulnerable in the society that the VAPP Law has come to stay, especially now that the law has caught up with a pastor who raped a member after drugging her.

On August 2nd 2024, I received the news of the victory recorded at the Imo High Court, where the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law won its first ever case over a pastor. I call on authorities to continue to invoke and make use of the relevant portions of this Law.

I appreciated their visit and encouraged them to work together to empower the girl child and prod her to realizing her dreams and goals in life. I told them that when God elevates one, the person should elevate others, as the chain of support for our girls must be strengthened.

Miss Imo, Queen Nancy Peterz, and Mr. Imo Universe, Chime Emmanuel Chidioke, came to familiriaze with my office and intimate me with the programs they are planning to enlighten and empower our girl child. We agreed that strengthening our girl child makes for a better tomorrow.

Yesterday, I received the 2024 Miss Imo and Mr. Imo Universe in my office on a courtesy call. I congratulated them on their wins and encouraged them to continue to impact their generation using the position that God has elevated them to.

I expressed happiness to the groups for coming to appreciate me. I assured them that I would not rest on my oars but would continue to do my best in the service of humanity through the special grace of God. I expressed that our goal is to help our vulnerable sisters and brothers.

The women came to congratulate me for my reappointment, reminding me that history is being made in the Ministry of women affairs, having been the first commissioner to complete her four years and was returned. At this juncture, we prayed, sang, and praised God for his goodness.

Yesterday, I played host to two renowned women groups, Imo Hope for Good Governance and the Excellent Women for Hope, who came to spur me to more work. They are among several women associations under the office of Imo First Lady, Her Excellency, Barrister Mrs Chioma Uzodimma.

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, I had the pleasure of joining the women of my hometown, Ozuh-Omuma in Oru East LGA of Imo State, for the Grand Finale of the August Meeting.

Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu The gathering concluded with a thanksgiving mass, expressing gratitude to God for a successful grand finale and praying for His grace to reconvene next year for an even more impactful meeting.
