Just arrived at Area 25 Health Center, paying a surprise visit to appreciate how our bosses (the community) are being helped and also to appreciate the challenges my health care workers are facing in their day to day duty

We are destroying because as Government Policy, no expired health commodities are to be used. Historically under the Expanded Immunization Programme of Malawi no expired vaccine has ever been used

Hon Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda MP (@honchiponda) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The reason the vaccines expired is not because we had too many to use or absorb in the vaccination campaign, but rather they were of short shelf life by the time we received the donation. From a consignment of 102,000 donated vaccines we managed to use all except for 19,610

We are destroying publicly in order to stay accountable to Malawians that the vaccines that expired are not being used during the vaccination campaign and on behalf of the Government I assure all Malawians that no one will be given an expired Covid vaccine.

Many thanks to the Media, Anti Corruption Bureau, National Audit Office, Malawi Police for witnessing the counting of the expired vaccine vials, loading of the same vials into the incinerator and then the setting ablaze of the vials

I implore everyone to continue observing all the COVID 19 preventive measures; mask up, washing hands with soap or sanitize, physically distance and avoid overcrowding (isolate when required).

From 539 samples that were sent to South Africa laboratory, results show that 14 samples have the Delta (Indian) variant. All ofthe 14 are from the Salima Sugar Factory, they were all under institutional quarantine and they have since recovered.

The public needs to be assured that those cases whose samples were collected were appropriately isolated to ensure the minimal spread of the virus to other people.

Though the virus is mutating, the basic preventive and containment measures remain the same. We need to work in unity to suppress further the transmission of COVID-19 in our country. Everyone should strictly adhere to all the Covid-19 preventive including getting vaccinated

My Ministry is currently in the process of re-distributing the vaccine doses from those sites that still have the vaccine doses to those sites that have increased demand. The public will continuously be informed on the vaccine stocks as we progress with the vaccination exercise

Remember we need combined efforts in the COVID-19 fight; vaccination as well as adhering to the preventive measures. The vaccines work with your immune system so your body will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed
