This government says they're cutting benefits to encourage people to work. But the DWP & OBR between them haven't yet been able to forecast any impact on employment outcomes. They're causing huge hardship without any analysis of whether it will even help meet their goals.

Our new analysis shows child poverty will rise even higher on this government’s watch -  to 4.8m by the end of this parliament -  unless it takes urgent action including scrapping the two-child limit in its forthcoming child poverty strategy and stepping back from benefit cuts.

It's certainly been a busy time to start at NEF! Here's what Tom Pollard Hollie Wright and I found digging into the claim that only (!) 250k people will be pushed into poverty from the benefit cuts. In reality it's a lot more 👇

Great statement below on abandoning the damaging and ineffective cuts announced in the Spring Statement - cites some of our NEF analysis showing the true nature of the cuts being approx £2bn more than reported neweconomics.org/2025/03/the-tr…

94 months since our loved ones died. Nearly 8 years since Grenfell. Still no justice. Our loved ones remain forever in our hearts. We will not stop fighting until we see justice.

Extreme wealth is threatening our planet. Here’s why we’re drawing a line. Watch. Share. Donate. This week, every donation will be DOUBLED by @biggive's #GreenMatchFund. Support the Extreme Wealth Line campaign: donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS… #ExtremeWealthLine #BigGive #EarthDay

As well as cutting health & disability benefits, the government plans to introduce conditionality for many people currently exempt from it I explained to Work & Pensions Committee yesterday that NEF's work shows this won't be an effective way to engage this group with employment support

Extreme wealth threatens our shared future. But together, we can push back. We want to equip campaigners, organisers and local leaders with the tools to challenge extreme wealth - in politics, media and the economy. Your donations can power that work: donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS…

This shift in Jobcentre culture & priorities would be very welcome, but the positive agenda set out in last year's DWP White Paper is going to be so much harder to realise in the context of the benefit cuts & increased conditionality announced since then theguardian.com/society/2025/m…

These MPs can see that pushing their disabled constituents into ever more economic security is the wrong thing to do - morally, practically and politically. These cuts desperately need to be rethought. 1/2

Because not all disabled people claim benefits. An increase in claims likely reflects an increase in take-up given the increase in financial hardship

John is right to be angry. It’s not only the biggest waste of an electoral majority in British political history. Starmer, as a representative of the establishment, has destroyed any prospect of Labour changing anything - even if he goes tomorrow. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Absolutely agree with Hollie Wright analysis of the latest Gov's housing proposals. RTB continues to deplete our social housing stock. We cannot allow any more sell-offs. Also, delivering 180 k social rent homes over 10 years is not enough to meet demand - we need 90,000 a year!
