@HockeyStatMiner

Known to make odd spreadsheets & post terrible memes. Lots of stats, CBA, & salary cap stuff. Disgruntled NYR fan 🙃.

Toronto spends 59.7M on their forwards. That’s more than 71% of the salary cap (83.5M)

Teams qualified for the 2nd round
Edmonton 58%
Colorado 58%
Rangers 58%
Carolina 62%
Boston 49%
Florida 59%
Vancouver 53%

As a longtime Leafs fan the most likely outcome in this series is the Leafs force a game 7, and in that OT lose in what will only be described as “The Incident” for the next twenty years.

Gotta choose between the thankless tireless work of building a decent model… and Rangers over Canes…

Sorry dweebs I too will dunk on your numbers

It might be counterintuitive, but giving the Canes a 66% chance to win the series actually *doesnt* mean they have a 66% chance of winning each game. It’s more like 57/43. The more games the more that edge is pronounced.

My perspective is a little more chaos (math) driven...

Even if CAR are 60/40 favorites every single game... NYR still win a seven-game series 3 out of 10 times.

There just aint nothin like getting groggy with a few beers and embracing the crapshoot that IS playoff hockey, baby!

Rangers/Canes will meet for the 3rd time in the last 5 postseasons. Feels almost poetically like the Caps (met 5 times in 7 years 09-15) have handed off the 'oh god not these melvins again' torch for the new decade.

Was curious about the most/least number of Game 6s there's been in an opening round.

Most: 8/8 (1991 & 1992)

Least: 2/8 (2000)

COL, VAN, and EDM winning would mean 2024 ties the record for least (only DAL/VGK and BOS/TOR would see Game 6).

Peter Laviolette and Rod Brind'Amour, a juicy coaching matchup in the 2nd round.

Laviolette was the coach and Brind'Amour the captain of the Carolina's 2006 Cup-winning team.

Not since 1947 has a series featured 2 opposing coaches who won a Cup together like that.
