Americans are hungry for a democracy that is more transparent, accessible, and accountable (and they spoke out via the ballot). There are indications that the next Congress will seriously consider legislation designed to improve our democracy. #HR1 campaignlegal.org/update/four-pr…

In 2018, we tackled threats to our democracy head-on — in courtrooms, with research, and using direct outreach to voters. In some cases we won big, and in others the battle continues — with your support. Please consider donating to CLC for #GivingTuesday! weblink.donorperfect.com/CLCdonate

There's a lot of good stuff proposed for #HR1, including a lot of what CLC experts have called for (bit.ly/2U0sjzK). Pro-democracy ballot initiatives passed by bipartisan margins across the country. MoCs from both parties should join the voters in supporting reform.

Thank you to Phil Mendelson for voting yes on Pay to Play and Ethics Reform and keeping DC government for its people not special interests. #EndDCPay2Play

The Council of DC is using the waning days of this legislative session to enact meaningful reform. They began 2018 with public financing and ended with pay-to-play—it’s been a remarkable year!

What appears to have happened in #NC09 to defraud absentee voters is completely illegal under state law. It is appropriate to investigate, prosecute those who committed the fraud and remedy. It is NOT appropriate to punish all absentee voters in the state.

MUST-READ from CLC's Trevor Potter, George Conway and Neal Katyal: "The bad arguments being floated in Trump’s defense are emblematic of a deterioration in respect for the rule of law in this country." washingtonpost.com/outlook/2018/1…

2018 was a big year for democracy reform in cities. Among them, DC Fair Elections and disclosure in Tempe and Phoenix. Lots to look forward to in 2019 like Seattle’s second election with democracy vouchers. Who’s excited?!

Gov. Snyder has vetoed SB 1176, the bill that would have barred future elected officials from requesting donor information from political nonprofit groups that spend large sums to influence our state's elections.

For all of the bad legislation moving through lame duck sessions, great to see Gov. Snyder vetoed this dark money bill. Voters have a right to know who is trying to influence their vote. This bill would have facilitated more dark money spending.

Good news for MT's fight against big money that drowns out voters' voices. #SCOTUS “declining to hear this case protects the viability of contribution limits nationwide as a tool for state lawmakers to combat pay-to-play politics,” says CLC's Paul Smith. missoulacurrent.com/government/201…
