The puffer, 'Eldesa', at Craignure, #Mull on 20 May 1982. Built for the Navy in 1944 as VIC72, she was sold into private hands in 1968 and named 'Eldesa' shortly after. Subsequent owners named her 'Eilean Easdale' (in 1983) and 'Vital Spark of Glasgow' (in 2006) [photo:

John o’ Groats has been one of the starting points for the Monte Carlo Rally on several occasions, going back to the mid-1920s. In 1939, one of the competitors was the famous aviator, Amy Johnson. She and her co-driver, Dorothy MacAvoy, had some trouble with their car, a Ford V8,
