Today we honor our veterans and are reminded of their great service and sacrifice for our country. We extend our deepest gratitude to our veterans and their families and recommit to leaving no veteran behind once they are home. #VeteransDay

We love our FREE food distributions just as much as you do. Join us on Tuesday, December 14th at 10am until supplies last at the Julia C. Hester House, along with our community partners Office of Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Houston Food Bank and Houston Humane. No registration, first come first serve.

All activities and programs will be closed on Thursday, December 23rd thru Friday, December 31st 2021. We will reopen on Monday, January 3, 2022. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay Tuned. We have so much planned for 2022!!!!!

It was great to be at Hester House to cut the ribbon today on 14 NEW little free library boxes. Thanks to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and the Barbara Bush Foundation Young Professionals Group for your continued partnership and efforts to get books in the hands of young readers.

.Hester House is the beating heart of the historic Fifth Ward, and it deserves an exterior as beautiful as the people who make it a reality. That's why I reached out to internationally acclaimed artist Jimoh Buraimoh to create this mosaic he calls "The Gate of Hope."
