The Environmental Biology class sampled macroinvertebrates at Cadron Creek for the #freshwaterbiodiversity lab and examined the critters before releasing them back to the water. It was a beautiful day and Shamindri Tennakoon, PhD and the class enjoyed being out in the field! #funinthefield

Sharing Marine Mammal Science at SICB! Cooper Elliott (’23), a BCMB major and member of Dr. Jenn Dearolf’s Lab, presented a poster about his work on adult beluga whale locomotor muscles at the annual Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) meeting in Austin, Texas.

Professors Rick Murray, Jennifer Dearolf, and Shamindri Tennakoon were kept busy at the Majors Fair yesterday as they spoke with students about pre-med, health sciences, and biology paths here at Hendrix College! We’re excited to begin working with all our new majors!

Last week, Dr. Dearolf led her Biology of Movement students in a EMG lab where students recorded their bicep EMGs while holding books. This course is in workshop format in which class is a mix of lecture and applied exercises, allowing students to apply theory as they learn it.

Meet Alaina Ivers ('22) who just got accepted to UAMS College of Medicine! Alaina says that Hendrix College has helped her by allowing her to develop meaningful relationships with professors and providing opportunities to participate in research.

Avery Olmstead, a student in Dr. Duina's lab, is working on a project to assess the genome-wide effects of mutations in chromosome components in yeast cells! Her work could provide insights to the molecular mechanisms in the neurodevelopmental disorder Bryant-Li-Bhoj syndrome.

John Henry has just been accepted into Clemson University's Biological Sciences PhD program! He plans to research interspecies or intraspecies variation in snake venom! He states that Hendrix College Baseball helped him develop time management, leadership, and personal discipline

Congrats to Savanna Watts for winning Third Place Overall Undergraduate Presentation at the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Marine Mammal Symposium (SEAMAMMS) at the University of South Alabama! Savanna presented her research of the locomotor muscles of spinner dolphins.

Meet Jaclyn Reifeiss who will be pursuing a Masters in Biology at the University of Central Arkansas! She will be researching eastern collard lizards in response to fire suppression tactics in the Ozark glades to better inform glade restoration and land management practices!

Congratulations to Sydney Wagner who just got accepted to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences! Planning to pursue a Bachelor's in nursing to specialize as a CRNA or pediatrics, she says that Hendrix College helped navigate her through nursing, especially Career Services!

Congratulations to Kaleigh Smith as she's been accepted to the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center! She will be pursuing a PhD from their Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program with a focus in Immunology and Microbiology.
