Mother of god… I set out to refresh the paint on the walls in my back garden and between the rain and the…rain, it’s taken about a week. Thought I’d do it in a day 😣 The arms are aching. Hopefully will last a few years…

I was driving along the Grand Canal Sunday morning and saw people cleaning. Fair play. Until Instagram account published photo/video. “New Acropolis” group. Worth googling. Make up your own mind.

Today's Liveline respresents the very best of public service broadcasting in the sensitive & dignified way it has handled one of the biggest tragedies of a generation. Worth our licence fee for this alone.

An 'unlawful killing' verdict is as close to justice for the families as possible. For decades the truth was covered, responsibility evaded. *Remember Christy Moore was sued simply over a line in a song....

Heartbreaking listening to Liveline. Little portraits of all the 48 souls who died in the fire in 1981. So long to wait for their poor relatives.

Ok I raised a baby seagull last summer, I draw the line at this fellah who appeared on the fence just now. Even the cats have gone into hiding.

Glad to see an Irish outpost in Bayeux: Le Comptoir Irlandais. Lots of top-end Irish made products. Locals love it, we were told.

For anyone who watched ‘Band of Brothers’ & the role of ‘Easy Company’, we visited the Dick Winters’ memorial (played by Damien Lewis in the HBO series). He led his 101st Airborne men through Brecourt Manor, Carentan, Bloody Gulch & beyond. He died in 2011. An extraordinary man.

Visited 6 museums: some huge, some family-run with pieces picked up in fields. Moving remnants: an Enigma coding machine; glasses from Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest; an original concentration camp uniform from a local man who was deported but survived the Holocaust.

In the lead up to the 80th anniversary of DDay on June 6th almost every nook & cranny of Normandy is being retouched & repaired: Roads, gathering places, cafes even rusty tanks (see here). Full employment for painters, road workers, flag hangers!

I took the photo on left in Port en Bessin because I love old ‘ghost signs’. Turns out it’s in a famous June 8th ’44 photo of Gen. Montgomery on his arrival in France. Every corner in Normandy has history…

9387 Americans are buried in this Cemetery. Took a photo of 1 grave, determined I’d find out about him. Turns out Sgt Willie Collins was black. Killed by a shell on Utah Beach as he unloaded supplies on DDay. Units were segregated in 44. 1 million African Americans served in WW2

Just finished cleaning out the car boot from the Normandy trip. Packed with….*cat food*! Forget wine, cat food is 50% cheaper over there than in Ireland. These packs were €4.50 - about €10 Euro here. I tell ya, “Cat & Dog” Cruises will be the next big thing!!!
