Fogarty #BlooDHIT2022 Overcoming barriers to provision of blood to sickle cell disease ( SCD) patients.There has been a big increase in the number of SCD cases in Ireland and currently 30% of Type O blood donations used for SCD. There is a need to increase number of donors 1/3

of African origin. Survey carried out with 387 responses. 60% of responses from African/Irish people. Barriers to donation include malaria deferral, lack of information. Motivators include involving religious leaders and supporting their own community #BlooDHIT2022 2/3
