Festivities began at Riverside today! The school has been decorated and children had a great afternoon watching a film and drinking hot chocolate. Can you guess what our Christmas production is?

Year 5 Kingfishers have been exploring the question 'What is Surrealism?' with amazing creative results! We have also been responding to a brief using design and limited materials to creat our own mockups of furniture inspired by French designer Charlotte Perriand.

With a bit of a wait on the train causing a delay we just managed to get to the DIG ready for our first activity. Everyone excited to see some viking artifacts!

As our playground was still an ice rink, we hit the park at lunchtime to get the children out and active. If it's the same again tomorrow and moving forwards, we'll continue to do this, if weather allows, to minimise time inside over breaks.

On Friday, pupils at Riverside were lucky enough to be visited by the award-winning author Liz Flanagan. Liz did a brilliant workshop with each class, talked to them about being an author and offered some wonderful tips on inspiring writing! Thanks Liz FK - they loved it!

Our Year 6 librarians visited Hebden Royd Mayor Bernice Hayes to collect £200 in book vouchers as Riverside were one of only two schools to contribute art to her Mayor for Peace initiative... they also came away with quite a shine for her gavel too!

Eggciting day in year 5 and that's no yolk! We've been dissecting eggs in our learning about the life cycles of birds and reptiles. Who knew the yolk was 'anchored' to the middle of the egg? 10 points if you can tell us the name of the 'anchor'...

This is what winning the first HX7 Girl's Football competition looks like! Big shout out to these children who won four, drew one, scored 18 and conceded 1. Future lionesses anyone?

What a result for our Girls' Football team at Calder High last night in the inaugural HX7 Schools' Competition. Unbeaten, champions and a team spirit to be proud of. Congratulations, girls!

Year 6 out doing some science field work surveying the invertebrate population locally. Leopard slugs, centipedes, earwigs, and lots of flying insects. Brilliant to get out of the classroom and enjoy the rare sunshine.

World Book Day for the creative Kingfishers - sharing their litrary favourites!

As part of OPAL developments in the playground, we had small world play happening in the hut, as well as larger construction zones and some kids, well just...hanging about! Current record for hanging without letting go is 3 mins 25 secs set by Joni in Yr 5...could you best that?

This was Wednesday's school dinner...chicken tikka samosa, cous cous, salad and onion rings. Chocolate fudge cake and cream for dessert... Where are the concrete chips? The soggy semolina? How times have changed.
