This is the unique role and contribution of Occupational Therapists. Activity, mechanics, cognition, wellness and so much more facilitated through the power of occupation. Engagement far extends the physical! ❤️

Penny has finally dropped around the turbulence of contemporary practice in settings which remain heavily influenced by mechanistics. Embroiled in professional paradigms and occupational science all day, mentally exhausted but ❤️ the revelations!

I have never been more adept at procrastinating than I have during this dissertation. Finding it so so difficult to keep moving through it 😭

I watch this as an OT and immediately think of strategies to physically support but when I really watch it, I go to the value of active and empathic listening, and the rights of both people as occupational beings. Co-occupations an important part of caring/cared for relationships

Experienced a little occupational disruption last week with a back spasm! But back to an 8k this morning. Keeping fit so meaningful to my self and wellbeing #meaningfuloccupation #valueOT Thanks to my colleagues for telling me I looked like a question mark last week 🤣

Any occupational therapy teams out there using occupational therapy models of practice to shape professional supervision? Something I'm pondering on today in maintaining philosophy in clinical practice. Keen to hear any views or experience?

About to write final dissertation conclusions and feeling sad I'm about to take a small step back from the topic filling my brain for the last year. Also sad MSc learning process is coming to an end. I thought you were supposed to be elated when you submit your dissertation! 🤣

MSc with Distinction 🥳🍾🎉 Very excited to see what the next step might be from my dissertation investigating occupation-focused practice in acute physical care hospitals. Much more potential to utilise the power of occupation

Doing some additional learning on driver rehabilitation & technological screen time this weekend. Not areas routinely addressed in my usual practice. Been so nice to step outside the 'norm' and remember my focus is occupation and it's vast range, regardless of practice setting.

Learning about US OT today. Someone asked a question about ethical billing & discontinuing treatment which clearly didn't work for the person. Really thought provoking for those working in public health systems. Do we consider if treatment is right for the person, or the system?

Brilliant specialist OT post in NHS Lanarkshire being advertised within the brain injury team. This is an amazing team who are developing and innovating all the time, would be a brilliant role to take on.

✍ Latest blog article is looking at truth telling in the medical profession. We're living in an age of “Spin”, but does this apply to doctors too? 🩺 I examine why a doctor might obscure or dilute the truth on occasion. Are they doing the right thing? thefrayedbandage.blogspot.com/2024/11/medica…

Watching a programme with a woman describing the outputs of self harm allowing her to then care for her injury. The initial action holds deep meaning, usually misunderstood. This is the power of occupational therapy, exploring the depth of actions within meaningful occupation

Absolute pleasure to work & learn alongside 2 students from GCU Occupational Therapy over the last 7 weeks. An innovative role emerging placement in University Hospital Monklands respiratory ward, exploring scope for occupational therapy to realise it's potential. Honoured to be asked to develop this innovation!
