On this day in 1906: The 14,000 ton passenger ship, SS Manchuria runs aground off Manana or Rabbit Island, during a heavy rain squall. Just two months earlier, Congress had appropriated funds to erect a lighthouse at Makapu'u. SS Manchuria, photographer and date unknown. HHS.
