As multi-millionaire business owners continue to blatantly lie about the purpose of HB2653, penning ludicrous op-eds that invent entirely ridiculous scenarios to try and justify an obvious money grab by the wealthiest 0.2%, we are glad to finally have some facts out there:

Expanding the estate tax exemption—as proposed in HB2653—is the wrong choice for Hawaiʻi and would curb our ability to combat rising income inequality, while depriving our budget of much needed revenue. We should instead raise taxes on the super rich.

Maybe the grossest part of this whole thing for us is the fact that these multi-millionaire business owners are leveraging the power imbalance between themselves and their employees (most of whom don’t make a living wage) to coerce workers into supporting this clear money grab.
