Phewwww. Edits done, so delighted / overwhelmed I even added an arbitrary ‘the end’. Is 12:56 too early for gin? I can’t wait to share this book when it’s ready.

On Thursday the 300-year-old Hunningham Oak near Leamington was felled for HS2. It’s not even on the main rail-route—it was chainsawed for a service road. This oak began its life around the time Daniel Defoe published Journal of a Plague Year. leamingtoncourier.co.uk/news/environme…

The 250-yr-old, magnificent Cubbington Pear (a wild pear tree, voted England’s Tree of the Year in 2015) is also due to be felled for HS2. A petition to save or move it (this can be done) is gathering force, fast. Find out more below, sign & share. leamingtoncourier.co.uk/news/environme…

If you’re still wearing a mask, washing your hands, and staying away from people, please share this because sometimes people try to make me feel like I’m overreacting.

Today, our booksellers unfortunately had to turn a squirrel away from entering our shop as it did not have a mask. We do apologise, but it was for the safety of our staff and other fellow customers.

This week I'm seeing my undergraduate students again in person here in Cambridge for the first time since March. I've found it moving & heart-lifting to be back with them after so long, after such a time, & am truly grateful to be teaching again, even under COVID-constraints.

bookseller life is knowing (objectively) that you have 50 copies of a book somewhere and knowing (for a fact) that they cannot simply have vanished whilst also accepting that it is impossible to find them, and that they have gone forever
