As an ELA teacher, I find value in including regional authors and poets and tying more standard literature to the local culture. So in that case, the flexibility of local control is helpful. #EdChat

Tom Whitby i've almost always been in private - so always had a bit more flexibility - usually w/ the board deferring to admin. But I have good friends in public admin/boards & when they work with teachers, its a win!! #edchat

The departments of education in some nations can "proudly" state that they know approximately what their students are studying on any given day, nationwide, across the curriculum. Frankly, that sounds a little scary! That certainly is not true in the US. Tom Whitby #edchat

Devastating news. The body of Hersh Goldberg Polin, an American citizen who was kidnapped on October 7 has been recovered from Gaza. Just last week at the DNC, his parents spoke with so much clarity and hope for a different outcome.

In my teaching career, I've found that many times the paperwork of students labeled as SpEd/504 can make them sound like they are awful, when in fact, they've often been some of the most amazing young humans I've ever met. #edchat #langchat
