One of the most upsetting things I’ve ever read. Those poor babies, those poor families. Unimaginable horror. Also thinking of those colleagues who spoke out and were ignored or, worse, chastised. Whistleblowing remains impossible in the NHS. Please god may lessons be learned.

A statement from the Executive Board of the Neonatal Nurses Association in response to the Lucy Letby verdict:

Today there is a huge lesson for all of us working in the NHS. Speak up. Keep speaking up. Our patients are relying on all of us to keep speaking up, and to take action when others speak up.

The details which have emerged from the Lucy Letby trial are incomprehensible. We know this will be particularly hard for those with #neonatal experiences, as well as healthcare professionals up and down the country who work tirelessly to support babies born premature or sick.
