Most physicians I know have a small pile of cards they have collected over the years from patients, colleagues and students. It means so much more than most recognize. Take the time to write these.

As we enter #WomensHistoryMonth, I am thinking of the many women who have made invaluable contributions to public health. Today and every day, we celebrate and honor their leadership and strength.

Please look closely at that final statement. Share your worries and struggles. Allow for vulnerability. It makes everyone better.

“Life is supposed to be LIVED, not ACHIEVED”. Sasha Shillcutt MD I love this. I know so many of us find purpose and happiness from our work- and this is wonderful. But rest, recovery and joy outside of work is so important. Trying to avoid the imbalance.

Congratulations to Dr. Herrick for his promotion to Associate Professor! You are a leader in our field, and we are so happy to see your hard work recognized. The department is so proud of you (especially the person who tweets on behalf of us).

Good luck! When mentoring your goal is not to make someone like you but to help them find their own path. Not everyone is trying to climb the ladder- it’s ok to be happy where you are. Mentors can give mentees the permission to say no.

This lesson took years for me to learn. Worrying about things out of your control robs you of joy and does nothing to improve the future.

I couldn’t agree with this more. I wish this was easily covered by insurance. The next shift in medicine will be towards preventing the diseases we have become experts in treating.
