A look into the eye 👁️ of Hurricane Beryl today. Late Monday, Beryl became the earliest storm to develop into a Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic, though it was downgraded Tuesday to Category 4. For up to date forecasts visit nhc.noaa.gov #hurricaneberyl

#Kirk is now a Category 4 #hurricane with max winds of 130 mph while at ~47°W. This shatters the record for farthest east an Atlantic Category 4-5 hurricane has occurred in October-November. Old record was Hurricane Sam in 2021 on 2 October at ~60°W.

Jeff Berardelli (@weatherprof) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Any stronger and #Kirk becomes a Category 5 storm. Already at 145 mph as of 11pm. Amazingly this is the furthest east this late in the season, by like 1000 miles, that we’ve had a cat 4+ system and who knows it may be a 5 soon. Very unique hurricane season.

Ex-Hurricane Kirk could bring a spell of disruptive weather for the UK from mid to late next week, however there is still a lot of uncertainty 👇

The US National Hurricane Centre has now included southern England in their forecast cone. Worth noting that Kirk won’t be a hurricane or a tropical storm when it reaches the UK as it will have long transitioned into an extra tropical low.

#Milton is now a Category 5 #hurricane with max winds of 160 mph. Milton joins Michael as the only October Category 5 hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico in the satellite era (1966-onwards).

The incredibly warm oceans this year are driving rapid intensification of storm systems, shocking even experts. This is direct effect of #ClimateChange.

NASA Climate (@nasaclimate) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Warm ocean waters due to human-caused climate change helped fuel Hurricane #Milton to become a powerful Category 5 storm. Sea surface temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico were well above average for this time of year as Milton churned toward Florida. earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/153429/…

Philip Klotzbach (@philklotzbach) 's Twitter Profile Photo

#Hurricane #Milton is poised to be the 5th hurricane to make landfall along the US Gulf Coast this year (Beryl, Debby, Francine, Helene). That would tie 2024 with 2005 and 2020 for 2nd most Gulf hurricane landfalls on record, trailing only 1886 (6 Gulf hurricane landfalls).
