Sugarcube's work looks way too on-model, and taking these screenshots out of context almost make them look like they were animated in flash, however Mercury Filmworks animates using flash yet it looks so bouncy and expressive in comparison.

i think the solution to how recent spongebob handles its expressiveness is to maybe take some cues from season 4

season 4 has some REALLY good expressions, especially when the board art translates well, but its usually not too over the top
