The Austin NewsGuild went on strike today.
The Houston Landing NewsGuild stands with our peers at the Austin American-Statesman as they continue to demand for a better contract.
You can help by not crossing the picket line or by donating to their Go Fund Me.
#Yallidarity ✊💜
To be quite frank, given all the Houston Landing has been through these past two months, our future is in the hands of our next EIC.
She or he will determine whether we succeed or fail. And we need the best journalist & human we can possibly find to lead us.
Post the job.

We demand transparency every day at our jobs, and we should be able to expect the same from our own newsroom. The Houston Landing NewsGuild wants a fair, national search for our next Editor in Chief.
Before I was hired at the Houston Landing, my job title and description was posted online for a fair application process.
I expect the same kind of transparency and thoroughness for our new Editor-in-Chief. So far, over the past 8 weeks, Peter Bhatia has not posted the job opening.
Our members walked out for lunch today to advocate for voluntary recognition — something Peter Bhatia has not given us.
We are heading toward an election (which we are confident we will win), but that can be avoided if Houston Landing leadership chooses voluntary recognition!
It’s great to see Marshall Project Guild join the nonprofit newsroom unionization wave!
We’re glad The Marshall Project leadership has taken the right step & agreed to voluntarily recognize your unit.
Peter Bhatia, why not join the ranks of other nonprofit newsroom leaders and do the same here?
.Houston Landing's management should immediately voluntarily recognize Houston Landing NewsGuild. Forcing an NLRB vote is a waste of time and a bad look for nonprofit journalism. We support Houston Landing NewsGuild! ✊
Incredibly disheartened Houston Landing CEO Peter Bhatia has not voluntarily recognized our union.
I spent this afternoon on assignment w/ a woman in tears who begged us to keep publishing stories in underserved communities like hers — full of folks whose voices go unheard.
