1 million year old stone tools are found on the island of Flores, but how did (likely Homo erectus) get them onto the island? The nearest Island is 9 km (6 mi) away! Thats about a swimming marathon, perhaps they had boats? #Mysteries of #human #evolution. Fact from Human Origins at SI

This painting at Chauvet is the oldest known image of a leopard. It was created over 30,000 years ago. The Late Pleistocene leopard (Panthera pardus spelaea) had disappeared from most parts of Europe by 24,000 years BP. Image: Nat Geo 2001 #IceAgeArt #InternationalCatDay

Humans didn't evolve from living apes, but share a common ancestor with them. Newer evolutionary trees do a great job depicting human beings as another living primate among many intelligent creatures, rather than the 'top' of an evolutionary tree.

I often ponder why women in science, with equal or better citations, publication records etc. to mine do not hold full professor positions, or Chairs, as I do. Even if they hold academic administrative positions? This needs to change.
