Full legal equality for women is some 300 years away. This rate of change is frankly insulting. Half of humanity can’t wait centuries for their rights. We need equality now.

The new IMP, which includes nearly $600m in infrastructure for Tewin, is up for discussion at Thursday's committee meeting. See below for some background and how to register to sign up as a delegate and call on the city to remove Tewin from the urban boundary!

Now, we're starting to get a clearer picture of just how costly this development would be for the city. Nearly $600m in the upcoming Water and Wastewater IMP is dedicated to servicing Tewin and supplementing nearby areas:

Adding Tewin to the urban boundary was approved without ANY public consultation. We can't let this continue to happen. Register to speak on Thursday by sending an email to [email protected], and check out our issue brief for delegates: horizonottawa.ca/tewin_brief

To sum up: Council agrees to Tewin despite city planners advising against it; developers argue "Tewin will pay for Tewin"; fast forward and now city proposing to pay $600M for Tewin infrastructure. So many things wrong here! Can we please bring in transparency and logic?

Ottawa’s finances are already strained. Instead of more costly sprawl, Ottawa should make it easier to build in existing communities. “We're looking at $600 million just on the water costs alone. That does not include transit. It does not include roads.” cbc.ca/news/canada/ot…

We joined several groups calling on council to halt the $600 million spend on Tewin at Thursday's Planning and Environment meeting. Council should not be prioritizing developer interests and spending hundreds of millions on needless sprawl. Read more: horizonottawa.ca/press_release_…

We joined several Ottawa organizations calling for a decoupling of Tewin from the Infrastructure Master Plan. The IMP projects capital water infrastructure costs at nearly $600 million. More study is necessary for a project of this scope. ecologyottawa.ca/tewin_imp_deco…

Good to see a motion from Shawn Menard to study the option of not proceeding with Taggart's sprawling and costly Tewin development. The development is a small, incremental gain in housing supply for a massive infrastrucutre bill that does nothing but serve developer interests.

We condemn today's narrow vote by councillors to defeat Shawn Menard's motion to simply study impacts of not proceeding with Taggart's controversial Tewin development. This development goes against many of council's approved committments. Read more: horizonottawa.ca/press_release_…

Yesterday, members of the public spoke out against the city putting hundreds of millions towards Taggart's new Tewin development. Despite what was promised, Tewin may not end up paying for Tewin, and taxpayers will be left footing the bill. Listen to what they had to say:

"This project smalls like a fish market on a hot day." Bruce Deachman lays out details of the ongoing concerns over Tewin, including high infrastructure costs and news about Tewin landowners paying for city staff assigned to the Tewin project. ottawacitizen.com/news/local-new…

Horizon Ottawa (@horizonottawa) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Tewin landowners are fully funding three full-time city staff to oversee the Tewin development, Taggart's OWN project. In return, the city is waiving the normal development application fee. When we heard "Tewin will pay for Tewin" this is NOT what we imagined...

Pamela O'Donnell (@hcpamelao) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The letter to the Mayor is important - AOO does not represent the Algonquin people and Tewin is not reconciliation (according to those who know best).

A Better Ottawa (@abetterottawa) 's Twitter Profile Photo

“Tewin has never made economic sense for the taxpayer.…Another questionable aspect was revealed Thursday: Tewin is funding the salaries and benefits of three senior city staff members whose responsibilities are solely to work on the Tewin project.” ottawacitizen.com/news/local-new…

If you arent counting, so far under Mark Sutcliffe we've approved $420 million for OSEG's Lansdowne deal (likely closer to $500 million) and so far $600 million for Taggart's Tewin - a development staff originally opposed. Thats over $1 billion for sweetheart developer deals.
