Despite having to navigate various forms of criminalisation, the members of Sex Workers’ Union have still achieved incredible progress - not only for the rights of sex workers, but the rights of all workers, especially those in the gig economy.

When sex workers say “sex work is work,” we’re not saying sex work is exactly like all other forms of work - but that sex workers, like all other workers, are due the rights and protections that all other workers are given.

Under full decriminalisation, sex work would be brought under employment law. All sex workers would be able to access work rights and collectively unionise. The law would be used to uphold sex workers’ rights, instead of creating an environment that is ripe for exploitation.

If we had full decriminalisation, the Sex Workers' Union could support sex workers to unionise their workplaces and demand better treatment, sick pay, and maternity leave. We need full decriminalisation in order to protect sex workers' rights.

Criminalisation has failed to reduce sex work or to keep sex workers safe. Criminalisation worsens sex workers health outcomes and denies us access to basic human and work rights.

17th December 2023 marks the 20th International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. This year, as in years before, our Twitter account will be sharing the publicly-known names of sex workers killed in the UK and Ireland since 1990. #IDEVASW #DoMoreThanSayTheirNames

Today is the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. I'm proud to stand with sex workers in their fight against stigma and violence, and for the full decriminalisation of sex work. Sex workers' safety, health, and human rights must be protected.

Have a read of this important thread on sex workers’ experiences of policing - policing does not keep sex workers safe. We need full decriminalisation to protect sex workers from harm. Sex workers should not be criminalised or punished just for trying to survive.

Happy Valentine's Day! Did you know the Nordic Model makes it illegal for sx workers to have relationships? In Sweden, the husband of a sx worker is being charged for taking care of the home and children while his wife was at work. This is HIS HOME. These are HIS CHILDREN. 1/2

2nd June is marked by sex workers, organisations and allies as International Sex Workers' Day, or International Whores' Day. We remember action taken by sex workers in France in 1975, celebrate the work of SWs around the world, and continue to call for rights and safety. #ISWD
