#OTD 1770, Thomas Mason was born to Ann & George at Gunston Hall. He trained as a merchant, married Sarah Barnes Hooe in 1793 and had 4 children. Died on Sept. 18, 1800, while serving as a member from #PrinceWilliamCounty to the VA House of Delegates.

What a wonderfully gorgeous day to host 4th fourth grade classes at Gunston Hall! Our staff & docents had many learning activities for them to participate in including a musician who played 18th- C music on a flute, fiddle, etc.

To celebrate #EarthDay 🌎 we pulled from the library's special collections an 18th-C. gardening book. Here are 2 images of a 'Treatise on Fruit Trees' by Thomas Hitt in 1756. This image from Chap. 7 outlines various garden configurations for multiple varieties of fruit trees.
