So many invaluable insights during today’s #OFNConf panel on closing the racial wealth gap. Understand history. Match solutions to scale of problems. More public and private support needed. #CDFIs are right tool for the fight. Listen to people you’re serving. Etc. #FinanceJustice

A great step in the right direction, sending corporate commitments to close the racial wealth gap through the tried and true plumbing of the #CDFIs. Congratulations to the Opportunity Finance Network team and network!

Excited about new report w/Natalie Geismar: We believe a thriving #rural America is possible & central to America’s future. So we took a close look @ effectiveness of federal rural policy. Lots of takeaways on ways to #DoRightByRural. Thread👇1/ brookings.edu/research/reima…

This is a long read (admittedly, I didn’t make it through the whole thing), with some important points and stories. If you follow 🦓 Zebras Unite 🦓, you probably won’t find any new revelations, but it’s probably good these things in perspective.

Everyone needs to learn how to think about complexity, and this free 44-page booklet is a nice (& beautiful) intro to systems thinking created by students at CMU. From affordances to wicked problems, it covers a lot of ground, with clear examples as well. design.cmu.edu/sites/default/…

Such strength in stories that portray Native women in their full agency, connected to one another and their traditions - by @JenniAlvarez_TV Cronkite School. Thank you PBS News for airing this even if it has been a while since it was recorded. pbs.org/newshour/show/…

This is not a dumb question - this is actually a crucially important question. Those of us who have worked on issues of race and stratification have long struggled with this question. #EconTwitter

On a just-released Upjohn Institute (not active on X) policy brief & 2 working papers, I report new findings on geographic scope of local labor markets, & how benefits of local labor demand shocks vary w/ geography & local distress.

Earlier in the week, I promised I'd put together a list of my favorite #dataviz tools. 🛠 These are by no means the only tools out there, but these are the ones I like and use regularly. (Sigh, another thread....I know, I know....) 🧵

Remember when there was an actual debate about a v-shaped recovery? The truth is so much different. Certain cohorts, demographics, and occupations will be irrevocably scarred. In this one instance we will need serious federal investment in the arts to come back from this.

Since Amazon has taken to citing me in full pg ads in the NYT, I thought I'd point out that the slogan is $15 & a UNION. Our work suggests retail employers have tremendous wage setting power. Unions are a critical form of worker power to counteract this. Vote #UnionYES!

Thrilled to be able to release a new interactive data tool that has been a major focus of my past year: How much capital flows into your city, county, or state? And how does your place fare in race and income investment equity? Check it out: apps.urban.org/features/capit…

A reminder of how Government Can Work: Yesterday, I walked my son to public school. On sidewalks. I took my youngest to the newly renovated n'hood library & picked up free COVID test kits. Eldest came home with a kit from school and a request to test before he heads back in Jan.

My article "No Strings Attached: Race, Philanthropy, and Donor Control from Black Power to Black Lives Matter" was published last week in NVSQ Journal doi.org/10.1177/089976… I love this research--about a philanthropic experiment in the 1960s--and am so glad it found a home.
