On Feb 25, 1863, Union soldiers informed the enslaved Gullah Geechee ppl of Georgetown, SC that they were free. This year, Gullah Geechee Chamber of Commerce celebrated Emancipation Day by streaming a 3-day, community read-a-thon of the FULL TEXT of “Black AF History” I couldn’t be more grateful

Open-range cattle ranching in the U.S. started in the South Carolina lowcountry during the Colonial period. The first “cow boys” were the enslaved ancestors of the Gullah Geechee, who brought this African style of raising cattle here.
