Professor Rayaz Malik and Dr Ioannis N. Petropoulos, ENA Group 👁️, discuss their work on a new, non-invasive, inexpensive way of detecting early stages of #neurodegeneration that could be as easy as an #opticians appointment. DOI: bit.ly/3MJ4rgF Listen: buzzsprout.com/582022/15655516
Could an eye camera be a game-changer in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases? 🧠🔬 We think yes! In this podcast, we argue that corneal confocal microscopy makes sense as a biomarker and look into the future. Shout out to the team Researchpod for hosting us 👏🫡

As AI advances in the analysis of corneal nerve morphology, Ioannis N. Petropoulos et al., from Prof. Rayaz Malik's lab, showed that corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) can distinguish patterns of neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. Read more: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39671224/
Our latest research on CCM shows that corneal endothelial cell density is significantly reduced in dementia and is associated with cortical gray matter atrophy, while corneal nerve fiber loss is evident in both mild cognitive impairment and dementia. alz-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/tr…
