Professor Rayaz Malik and Dr Ioannis N. Petropoulos, ENA Group 👁️, discuss their work on a new, non-invasive, inexpensive way of detecting early stages of #neurodegeneration that could be as easy as an #opticians appointment. DOI: bit.ly/3MJ4rgF Listen: buzzsprout.com/582022/15655516

Could an eye camera be a game-changer in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases? 🧠🔬 We think yes! In this podcast, we argue that corneal confocal microscopy makes sense as a biomarker and look into the future. Shout out to the team Researchpod for hosting us 👏🫡

Check out the new work from Georgios Ponirakis, PhD 🇺🇦 and colleagues: Glucose lowering medication associated with weight loss may limit the progression of diabetic neuropathy in type 2 diabetes onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jn… #JPNSXHighlights

Obesity is a major risk factor for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in type 2 diabetes. This study investigated the effect of glucose lowering medication associated with weight change on DPN.

Peripheral Nerve Society (PNS) (@pnsociety1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Their study found that people with type 2 diabetes on medications that cause weight gain had worse nerve damage and a greater loss of corneal nerves over time compared to those on weight loss medications.

Choosing diabetes medications that promote weight loss may help reduce nerve damage, improve long-term outcomes for patients. Weight management is crucial in diabetes care.

Did you know diabetic neuropathy affects millions of people, leading to distressing complications which affect well-being? This @WorldDiabetesDay, @NEUROdiab_eu Youth Committee is working to improve well-being & reduce the impact of #neuropathy. Together, we can make a difference

Our latest research on CCM shows that corneal endothelial cell density is significantly reduced in dementia and is associated with cortical gray matter atrophy, while corneal nerve fiber loss is evident in both mild cognitive impairment and dementia. alz-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/tr…

X was once a valuable platform for exchanging ideas. However, with the amplification of misinformation, messages getting buried, and the owner’s retweeting of false content, it is no longer a platform for meaningful conversations.

Our intuition often misleads us into thinking that general obesity carries the same risk as central obesity. Our study shows that visceral, not subcutaneous, fat drives peripheral #neuropathy through diabetes, hypertension, inflammation, and vascular disease.
