Ever wondered what makes a neuron spike? Check out experimental + modeling work my wonderful former master students Alex Gastone, Benjamin Ehret & Moritz Buchholz did with me in Kevan Martin's Lab at the Institute of Neuroinformatics at ETH Zürich & UZH Science: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

1/n 🚨📢The most fun #Microscopy 🔬 project I've ever worked on is now online 📢🚨: Big thanks to @FritjofHelmchen for allowing me to turn 🔭 telescopes and 🐚 scallops into #multiimmersion microscope objectives! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Cool new work from the Engert lab, showing that the optomotor response in zebrafish is normal even when fish are grown in the dark or neuronal activity blocked. Is this surprising or dogma breaking? Even in mammal VC, many aspects of visual behavior do not need activity.

We are very excited to share our work using #zebrafish to study fast acting antidepressants work! Tl;dr –ketamine and related drugs drive minutes-long calcium elevations in astroglia sufficient to mediate their effects. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Details below:

Out now in PLOS Computational Biology! 🥳We combine patch-clamp recordings and modeling to explore how synaptic strength, short-term plasticity, and input synchrony work together to drive neuronal spikes. Enjoy the read! 🙂 journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…
