Pulled out this excellent volume tonight from Greg Acken and Kent State U Press. Looking for tidbits about the Second Corps staff. 

Maj.Charles J. Mills of Gen. AA Humphreys 2nd Corps staff. Killed on this day 159 years ago at the Battle of White Oak Road. One side of the inscribed locket contains hair taken from him after his death.

First Lieutenant Hugh Doran Fricks, 22, killed in action on #Tarawa on November 23, 1943, was accounted for on March 16, 2020, and buried at the #PunchbowlCemetery on June 25, 2024, with members of his family present. #WWII #NoOneLeftBehind #RememberHonorUnderstand #NeverForget

The only aviator ever buried at sea while still inside his plane, Aerial Gunner Loyce Edward Deen in 1944. ✈️ Deen was hit so bad by Japanese anti-aircraft fire, his shipmates decided to keep him forever in his TBM Avenger. 🇺🇸 His burial video in the Pacific below 👇🏼
