1 pass cover crop loving this weather. Phacelia, radish and spring beans all growing well before things cool down. This will be grazed down in the new year and sown into Diablo spring malting barley for Simpsons Malt Ltd. NFU Scotland Direct Driller #SustainableFarming #regenag
Armchair ride today. Not really direct drilled, Sumo then Mzuri, at pace. Last field, so almost done. All the rest is rowed up now. Amazing spell of weather and soil conditions. KWS UK Ltd Extase NFU Scotland Direct Driller
Craft winter barley for Simpsons Malt Ltd. off to a great start. No fuss. 1 tractor, 1 man, 1 orange drill. Well sown is half grown. What could possibly go wrong🫣🌨🌊☃️ Direct Driller NFU Scotland #barley #regen #SustainableFarming
Started well, then found 3 systems mostly blocked. Bryan found a 9 foot deep hand dug drain, amazing🤯 looks like a new system is required😳££. Soil is in great condition though Direct Driller NFU Scotland #drainage #SoilHealth #investinginsoils #digger
Beautiful sunset as I sprayed the OSR at Gordon. It was so dry at sowing that there are patches in this bit, but it looks good. Spraying finished for 2025👍 Antifreeze, a good wash and into the shed. NFU Scotland Valtra ValtraOficial Direct Driller #oilseeds #farming
A beautiful morning here after all the rain. OSR that looked like it needed sheep on it should now slow down a bit with the hard frost. Nature's growth regulator. 🥶❄️ NFU Scotland Direct Driller #WINTER #Osr #frost
A change from the farming chat last night at the Merse disc soc meeting. Sammi Kinghorn OBE🥇multi medal winning paralympian inspired and humbled us all with her positive outlook and strong work ethics. An amazing young lady. ParalympicsGB
We had a very interesting discussion yesterday with Vicki Swales and Chris Bailey from RSPB Scotland . Policy changes, predators, and percentage of land forced into schemes were the main topics. We all agreed that dialogue is key. NFU Scotland Direct Driller The Scottish Farmer
Nice to get next doors sheep onto this years cover crop. Im not sure if it's regen, sustainable, or integrated, but it just feels like farming and makes sense to me.I hope the weather dries up as poaching is a concern but it's still the best way to spread muck. Direct Driller
Good drainage is key, so investment cant stop. A system about to go in at home. We are finding the original hand dug system, some 9 feet deep. Dug every 10 yards across most of the farm, incredible. A grant for drainage repairs would help keep soils healthy. #scotgov NFU Scotland
We installed our Enduramaxx rainwater harvester tank from Agrii this weekend, that stopped the rain falling. Hoping to fill the sprayer from it this year to save some metered water. Fits perfectly between the two sheds and hopefully that will keep it topped up. NFU Scotland
Off to a good start. Beans going into barley stubble. Conditions are very good, and ground is breaking down in to a nice tilth. Front leg in 6" coulter 2.5" and only around 12L /Ha of expensive fuel. Roll & pre em next Direct Driller #striptill #sustainablefarming NFU Scotland
Diablo spring barley for Simpsons Malt Ltd. going in today. Too early? 🤷♂️time will tell. Nice hailstone shower tonight, which hopefully isnt an omen. Ground conditions were good and band sown fertiliser will get it of to a good start. #mzurisown Direct Driller NFU Scotland
During some contract barley sowing in Ancrum I managed to catch my My Name'5 Doddie Foundation tractor and the fantastic looking bus in the same picture. Nice wave from one of the kids on it kept me cheerful in the sunshine.
