One for you Tom Tulloch-Marshall Gauche Wood cemetery. 48 burials, 5 of which unknown. Created by 21 Div burial officer on 6/7th October 1918. All named casualties 18/19/20th September, all unknowns 6th October. Same battalions. Notice a pattern? Unknown DoD's are burial dates?

Yesterday with the cooperation of the landowners our lead archaeologist along with a magnificent team completed geophysics (non invasive scan) in the field between the craters and the Village of Beaumont Hamel with fascinating results. Our study of the entire area continues

Talking about my grandfather Western Front Association Tyneside. A lovely, welcoming branch, but in need of support. Should the necessary support not materialise, this year could be their last. #wfa #remember

In the lead up to the ceremonies at the flagstaff in Beaumont Hamel & the Craters on 13th Nov, we will post some pictures from our extensive archive. The first being from the German Archives of Beaumont Hamel before much of the destruction. #wewillrememberthem #ww1 #somme

Today, a RE sketch showing 252nd Tunnelling Co’s progress of H3, the mine tunnel towards Hawthorn Ridge. You will notice the dog leg which is there because they hit a heavy belt of flint and had to divert course around it. You will also see the tunnel H3.1 to aid spoil removal.
