Hi the UK rooty community, we have got some serious issues with our minirhizotron system from Vienna Scientific Instruments preventing our PhD student Grace Handy to do her campaign in March. I wonder, if somebody could borrow us one ? until we find a solution 😀 BIFoR

Well done Gianni Micucci! New paper offering prospects for measuring denitrification: a difficult N cycle process to measure!!! Fotis Sgouridis BIFoR Prof. Iseult Lynch 💙 Stefan Krause Towards enhanced sensitivity of the 15N gas flux method for quantifyin... sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Unfortunately I cannot make it to EGU in person this year but the amazing Imogen Carter and Dr. Marie Arnaud... moove to @marnaud.bsky.social will be around to discuss what we have been working on 🌳 #EGU24

Back from field trip teaching in Berlin, it was great fun to explore river flow movement measurement (flow meter, salt dilution, etc), river thermal analysis (below is a thermal image of the effluent outlet), and SUDS used to mitigate urbanization effect. I had the best time at #npnextgen last week. Thank you so much New Phytologist for putting on such a great conference. I would recommend to any early career researcher so be sure to apply when Uni of Birmingham BIFoR host next year!!

📢📢full funded (EU-UK) PhD project with me School of Natural Sciences, Trinity College Dublin doing cutting edge stuff with automated root measurements to understand ecosystem greenhouse gas fluxes: findaphd.com/phds/project/r… #roots #phdposition #rootecology

📢New Root paper: Accesible AI model for ecologists fails to catch roots in complex mature forest soil images from minirhizotrons 😭. More collaborative work needed! tiny.cc/0yhozz lead by Grace Handy w Abraham George Smith Daniela Yaffar @nanimuelbert iEES Paris BIFoR

If you are an early career #plantscientist looking to share your work in a stimulating, supportive and exciting environment, join us Uni of Birmingham for New Phytologist next generation scientists 2025 #npnextgen 4–7 August 2025. Applications close on 27 January newphytologist.org/nextgenevents/…
